BSP Football League Update

I have just seen the results of the above (see table below); we came 3rd! This is a brilliant achievement especially as this is our first year in the league.

Well done to all the Year 5 and 6 pupils who participated.

St Michaels Extra-Curricular Sport and Leisure Clubs

At St Michaels we are very fortunate to be able to offer a wide variety of sports/leisure clubs before, during (lunchtime) and after school. Clubs vary from golf, gymnastics, cheerleading, football, karate, Body Balance, Hip Hop but to name a few. In the summer months, tennis and table tennis is also on offer at lunchtimes. We are also in talks with a local cricket provider to be able to start offering a year round cricket coaching club. Watch this blog for more details.

If you would like any information regarding the clubs on offer or find out how to sign your child up for one of our clubs, please contact the school office for more details.

Have a great (and active!) summer.

BSP Football League Vs St Josephs 14.7.17

Our final match of the season and another win…we saved the best for last!

This time we took a team of Year 6’s and after a busy week and even busier afternoon with their final assembly just finished, the team played brilliantly with no signs of flagging and led us to a 5-1 victory. Goals again from Trey and George (back from injury) in the first half and great goal keeping once again from Ollie and Max (Ollie also scoring in the second half).

Well done all the Year 5 and 6’s who took part in this year’s BSP League. We are still awaiting the final results of the league but for our first season this was an impressive performance and we look forward to competing again next year.

Thanks also to all the parents for organising transport to the matches and to Mr Dale for sorting out the kit, balls and being our unofficial coach!

St Michaels Games Day 2017

We changed the format for our annual Games Day this year to a more traditional races based event. Pupils competed in their house groups as in previous years but this time took part in 2/3 races choosing from a selection of 8 different races including  running, obstacle course, dressing-up, egg and spoon, skipping, beanbag/ball relay, sack race and relay. We also included a parents three-legged race. Oak was the winning house.

Thanks to the PTA for supplying ice-lollies and refreshments for spectators and for the rain for only making a brief appearance!

Thanks also to all the staff and our two Work Experience students for helping the afternoon run so smoothly.

At first I thought that it would be a hard game but it turns out that we won 6-0! We all played really well as a team and we felt we deserved to win.

Oscar (Year 5) wrote:

Before the game we did fun mini warm-ups and I was in goal. I saved a hard shot which hit my finger and was injured so couldn’t play for the first half. Luckily, it got better and I came on in the second half and saved 2 goals. It was a very good game.

In our match today against Summercroft A Team, we had a hot and challenging match against a very strong side. Again, great saves from Ollie our goal keeper and some fantastic goals meant that we held our own. The match ended in a 7-3 win for them but our boys played very well especially after the late night last night due to their end of year production and another one tonight. Two more matches next week may secure us the win we have so narrowly missed in this league so far.

Birchwood Games 2017

Following on from their sporting success in tag rugby and football, Year 4 had the fantastic opportunity to attend the Birchwood School Games.  This annual event gives children a chance to try a variety of sports such Danish Longball, Kwik cricket, cheerleading and even hip-hop dance! Everyone participated with enormous enthusiasm and several of the coaches commented on their great behaviour and sportsmanship. Once again we are proud to see St. Michael’s children showing how they are great ambassadors for our school! The photos give a taste of the excitement of the day.

Nabikabala Charity Football Match 3.7.17 and 17.7.17

The Year 6 fundraising committee has organised a series of friendly football matches for pupils in KS2 to help raise money for the metal sheets for the roof at Nabikabala School. The players have been asked to give a donation of £2 to take part and the matches are being played at lunchtime on the 3rd July with the final on the 17th July. Mr Dale is kindly refereeing the matches and so far Team 1 and Team 2 have won their matches. Watch this space for further updates on the matches and to find out who the winning team is.

BSP Football League Update

The Year 5 and 6 footballers are continuing to enjoy participating in the BSP league and have played two more matches since my last post.

We travelled to St Andrew’s in Much Hadham for a match on Wednesday 7th June. We were a Year 5 team as Year 6 were away on their PGL residential and as they were a team of Year 6 pupils we held our own and played really well, drawing the match 1:1.

On a blisteringly hot afternoon of Thursday 15th June, we hosted the match against High Wych. Once again we played to a high standard with several notable goals and goals saved by our keeper Oscar. Unfortunately, we were beaten in the last 5 minutes of the game taking the score to 3:2 to our opponents.

We are now looking forward to our next match against St Josephs and are hoping for a win this time!
